This time last year, we opted for a simple celebration, going to the supermarket to buy the ingredients for steamboat, and salted egg crab. Twas such an unromantic conception, yet I was truly satisfied. It seemed like just yesterday. And now I'm left with wondering what you have planned for her.

Well, I'm not hurting. It is just a memory. I have an amazing memory.

However unconvincing it may sound, it really is just a Tuesday to me.

I couldn't remember what I used to do during weekends, so I looked back on past posts only to see ironically, what I used to do on weekdays.

That's when I realized that things have changed because we have grown up and have to do grown up things like WORK.

I used to hang out with V and A a lot cos we were working together and had the same schedules. And A was staying really near me. But she has since moved away and we stopped meeting. I used to meet V every week for sun tanning/swimming, shopping and dinner on weekdays, but I can't now cos I'm working an office job *roll eyes*.

I used to meet Q for lunch and movies but we haven't met for God knows how long now cos she's suddenly very busy since don't know when and doesn't even have the time to read my tweets.

As for my CG clique, the girls have started working too, and the boys are busy with school, and we usually only catch up to celebrate each other's birthdays.

Then there's S who is very busy with work now too. We are tryna meet each other more often now though. I think. I think we should. Cos we r in the same boat.

J has always been crazily awfully busy with meeting up with friends, and kazillions of activities during her uni days, and she wasn't around a lot. Exchange in Shanghai, touring Europe and all. But we are making the effort to meet up more now. At least she is. (:

S baby is a freaking workaholic. She just can't stop and pace herself. So it's been a couple of months since we really hung out and catch up properly. But I won't forget how she was there for me A LOT during that period of time when I really needed it the most. I can never thank you enough for that and I love you!

Then there is my SS clique (and I don't mean secret society) who probably still doesn't know what the problem is till now. It's okay, it really is, if you wanna continue thinking this way. People don't realize what they did was wrong till someone does it to them anyway. So I understand.

I used to meet Fel almost every week to chill over hot chocolate at the airport, but had to miss a few weeks cos of my salsa classes. And she was busy with work as well. Peak period from Christmas to Chinese New Year. We are gonna tryna meet up to go to the gym. Hah.

Then there are my "uncle" friends (not to be confused as my uncle's friends) whom I'm meeting more often lately and whom are pretty sweet to me, spoiling me like a princess. :D

Last but not least, I hope I haven't left any one out, there's my office clique, but I only meet M on weekends.

So there. But that doesn't explain the difference in the way I feel then and now. Because it's not the external factors that matter but the internal.

I was just going "waaaaa so good, waaaa so good" when others won prizes and my name was called out for the 6th prize which was $60 NTUC vouchers. Hehe.

She doesn't have many more years to live, but I still have many more years ro earn money after she's gone. Ah ma, I really don't know if you can wait for me to get married... :(

I feel very misunderstood lately. And I'm really struggling to express what I feel and mean fluently in the following paragraphs.

You know, while I may seem like the epitome of an extrovert, it doesn't mean that I'm as strong as you think or as strong as I look. It doesn't mean that I can take care of myself in any situation and that I'd always "be fine".

Today, my colleague commented that people's perceptions of others "comes in a package". This is to say that people naturally associate certain character traits with others. For example, an quiet person would not give people the impression that he/she is friendly and sociable.

Similarly, the adjectives that people would probably associate with me are "outspoken", "outgoing", "assertive", maybe even "shrewd", "confident", and "dominant" but not "vulnerable". But I am. Basically, I don't know what else to say except I have feelings too you know. Don't treat me like a pet (even pets have feelings too), abandoned once the novelty wears off.

Actually, I was pretty disappointed with the experience. It was nothing like what I had expected at all. I didn't get to dance all night till morning to my favourite R&B/Hiphop/Mambo music at all. Instead, what I got was house/trance or whatever; I still can't tell the difference since I am not a fan.

Outfit for the day: "Nautical" bikini with polka dotted translucent loose flowy long tank.

Happy that it was a great camwhoring day...

Went for Dad's pre-birthday celebration at Golden Mile Complex popular steamboat-chicken rice shop first, but I guess we all forgot to take pictures.

Watched New Year's Eve on Sunday night. I really, really liked the show, but I'm not gonna give a spoiler as it's quite hard to begin. The concept used was like that of Love Actually - a mish mash of individual yet somehow interconnected stories. Do catch it!!! I'd say 5 out of 5 stars.

I say that cos I've miraculously and suddenly turned into a scrooge ever since I started working full time. I try really hard to save half my pay (but I think I've failed), and I give my parents and grandma a quarter (not grudgingly), which leaves me with a quarter for myself, which is practically nothing after spending on transport and food. =/

And lately I spent on contact lenses which I really hope arrive this time, and $200 on my dental appointment today!

Okay, just forget about it.

Had a jolly day out with my siblings 2 Saturdays ago. I was craving for Cold Stone Creamery ice cream, at Orchard Central, so I treated all of them to some too. There was a long queue.

Chocolate Devotion. Chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips, chocolate fudge and brownie. Yumms. (: Just don't think about how many calories that is. =X

Cake batter ice cream with rainbow sprinkles, brownie and fudge. Fatty says this was the nicest.

Strawberry banana rendezvous. Strawberry ice cream, graham cracker pie crust, white chocolate chips, strawberries, bananas.

My cute-looking (note: keyword is LOOK) baby brother with Oh Fudge! Chocolate ice cream, milk, and fudge syrup milkshake.

Just so you know, one is 13 and the other 16. Lol.

We went to Takashimaya to shop after that as our Godma had given us $50 voucher each! Hurray!

Eugene bought a pair of grey Vans.

Jaslene bought a Billabong wallet.

Fatty bought a 1000 piece Winnie-the-Pooh puzzle.

And I bought a pair of starwberry and cream Vans today, and Fatty got a "Packed Sandwich Maker" which we'd both be sharing. Keep a lookout for the photos of the sandwiches when we've made them! (:

After shopping, it was eating again! =/

Oh yes, we cabbed home, and the driver told us his woes. Lol.

He explained that taxi drivers choose passengers, especially in town areas, so they can maximise their earnings within that few peak hours. If they were to go outta town and back, they would spend 1 hour earning $20+. But if they stayed within town areas, they can easily earn about $60 in an hour since the flag down rate and CBD surcharge is already $6.

He told us that it is hard for passengers to get cabs during peak hours, but even harder for cab drivers to get passengers during any other hours; especially when everyone's competing at hot spots such as Changi Airport and nightspots. Plus, passengers from the latter tend to throw up.

He also told us that he got "robbed" by 4 Indian teenage boys with a butter knife who later pleaded with him not to make a police report, gave a school girl who overslept on the last bus a free ride home and saw her get slapped by her guardian, and helped a lost old lady with senile dementia to find her way home.

Then, we reached home.

And on Vesak Day, I was happy to help Violin babysit Tiara and Xixi. (:

We went for "coffee" after dinner, at Coffee Bean. And here's Bels being selfish and not wanting to share her food as usual. She couldn't finish in the end!

The Accidental Proposal

is the name of a novel I'm reading currently which is really funny. It literally makes me laugh out loud.

Anyways, as usual, I got TONNES to blog about. :( I wish I could update my blog as regularly as last time, and even better if I can update it immediately after every activity ain't it?

So first up, Imma blog about some of the fun I have at work, with the interns, and my babies. :P This took place almost 2 months ago; our "learning journey", national education trip out/trail which culminated at the Singapore Flyer, AGAIN. We've decided, no more Singapore Flyer. Lol.

K larz, that's like practically the nicest view Singapore has already k.

I was excited about this...The Merlion Hotel! It was at One Fullerton, the Merlion Park or something. It's apparently one of the highlights of the Arts Festival, and it has only 1 room. And, we were told that all 66 nights that this hotel would be available for staying in were snapped up in an hour! It was open to the public for viewing in the day though, so here we go!

Just gotta do it! :P

The Tourist.

It was my birthday last Saturday, 30th April. So, the plan was to take a "holiday" at Fullerton Hotel (due to our job constraints), and have just a simple celebration. (:

And due to time constraints, also cos of my job, my posts will have to be mainly picture posts.

This is the clearest picture I can get from my iPhone, of the 0.08 carat diamond necklace that baby got for me, for my birthday present, from Lee Hwa.

I was pleasantly surprised when someone pressed the door bell, and I opened the door to see this. It was so sweet and thoughtful of Fullerton, more specifically the staff who checked us in at the front desk, Suzette. She had asked me if it was any special occasion, perhaps cos of the bouquet of flowers I was carrying in my arm, but I certainly did not expect the cake. It was a very nice cake, with a crisp base.

My flowers at the back! (: Ordered pizza from Pizza Hut for my friends. Totally forgot to take pictures with them!!! :(

We didn't know I was gonna get a cake from Fullerton, so baby bought me this NYDC Goldmine chocolate cheesecake with oreo cookie base from Bugis Junction. Yummy yummy!

Hair Adventure.

I was at the salon last Friday, and suddenly thought that I'd do a post to track my hairstyles over the past 4 years or so.

Chinese New Year 2008. "Natural" brown with red highlights. That was whatever that was leftover from my perm after cutting. Done at Reds, Suntec City.

Chinese New Year 2009. Purplish black. Hair was curled with a curling tong.

Can't remember when exactly was this. Middle of the year in 2008? But I really kinda like this picture. Black, with bleached, thin, highlights. Also done at Reds in Suntec City. Hair was permed.

This was taken on my 21st birthday, 2 years ago. I can't remember what was the colour, "natural" brown? Haha.

This look is just, erm, fringe up in a hairband, straight hair. Haha. Hair was probably rebonded.

Shorter hair, with straight blunt bangs, around Chinese New Year 2010.

With 3 "strands" of hair extensions, hot pink, baby pink, and white. Around May last year. Done at Far East Plaza.

Chinese New Year this year. Hair colour starts to get lighter. Hair curled with curling tong.

Mid March to end April. Hair wasn't supposed to turn out "orangey' or "goldish" and therefore ah lian looking. Haha. Hair pulled back in a Japanese Odango bun.

Suddenly decided to cut my hair this short last Friday, after wanting to keep it till my lower back for ages. Ash green!

And I've kinda ran outta ideas. Till my next inspiration then! (:

This is supposedly quite a big issue. I only found out about it through "Now You Know", on clicknetwork.tv. This girl apparently received death threats and withdrew from school after this became a viral video.

Lol.

I didn't really feel offended after watching the UCLA girl's "Anti-Asian", "racist" rant video online.

I mean, she was just complaining about people talking in the library. And perhaps, it's really Asians who are doing it? Cos I know Singaporean secondary school students do.

It depends on whether you wanna look at the video subjectively or objectively. People can be so over-sensitive sometimes.

It's not like she's saying things like Asians are dumber or lazier than Americans etc. I'd probably feel offended by that cos it's so not true.

Took photos and videos of my kids but apparently, according to MOE regulations, I can't upload them without their parents' permission.

Well, for those who are still unsure, I'm not a teacher, I'm a residential supervisor for the Residential Programme at Assumption Pathway School.

This school is something like a vocational school for those kids who had failed their PSLE. They are supposed to go to ITE after that but I heard that few of them actually do. Their literacy and numeracy is like worse than that of a regular student in lower primary.

There are basically 2 kinds of students here. The first kind is those that have at-risk behaviours like glue-sniffing, overdosing on panadols, self-mutilation, stealing etc. The second kind is those that are intellectually impaired, have mild down syndrome, autism, dyslexia etc.

God bless us.

We'll have about 40-50 students staying with us for a month, excluding weekends, each time. They are here to learn values like punctuality, responsibility, and respect.

My job is not simply just to watch over them. I have to discipline them, write reports, plan programmes, activities, and outings for them, do all the necessary paper work, create folders for each and every one of them, attend meetings etc. Oh ya, plus do my own housework. It IS that crazy considering that they create multiple incidents every single day, and they just can't shut up and sit still.

As you can see from my Facebook status updates, it is kinda like a love-hate relationship with them. At the end of the day, I still cried when the naughtiest girls were taken away by the police last night.

We watched The Green Hornet, and I thought it was pretty nice! Funny. And you'd get used to Jay Chou's accent after he uttered his first line. Haha.

The second day was kinda dull. We only went to 2 aunties' houses, and visited a granduncle at his food stall at Golden Mile before having KFC for dinner and I went home to sleep. Bleah.

I have been busy with work, going out (heh heh), and job hunting (filling up those super tedious application forms suck). I need to blog SO much. There's SO much to update, so I gotta keep it short.

Had an awesome dinner at Royal China at Raffles Hotel on New Year's Day. :D Friend's grandma's birthday. There was shark's fin, abalone, signature lobster noodles, braised duck etc. I didn't take pictures cos I thought it'd be kinda embarrassing to, at a place like that. :S

After that, clubbing on New Year's Day at Boiler! It was funnnnnn! ((:

Dinner at Indulge, The Cathay. And I really gotta rave about this place. Cos it's cheap and good! I think it's $25.80 for a set meal comprising soup, appetizer, main course, dessert, and drink!

After such a satisfying meal, we went to catch a movie, The Ghosts Must Be Crazy. Honestly, it's not worth the money. Scary not that scary, funny not that funny. But we just wanted to catch a movie, and I've watched practically everything else!

SPOILERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ALERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT!!!
For those who didn't already know, there are 2 stories in the movie. One takes place in the jungle where the guys are having their last in-camp reservist training, and the other is about a guy (Henry Thia) borrowing luck from the dead, being forced to marry a super ugly ghost bride (Mark Lee), and dying in the end.

Watched this on Sunday. It didn't look promising to me at first, but I ended up really enjoying it cos it's just the kinda girly show I like! Christina is so pretty, I can't stop staring at her. Absolutely love her soft and smooth curled blonde hair with the nice bangs. I liked the songs and performances as well, keeps one mesmerized. Storyline is not exactly amazing, but everything else is. SO GO AND CATCH IT!!!

Maggie (Anne Hathaway) has stage 1 Parkinson's disease. Because of that, and because of a bad experience in a previous relationship, she was very resistant towards falling in love again. Thus, she put up a brave, nonchalant, promiscuous front. Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal) is very good with charming girls of all ages, and good in bed. He was working in an electronics shop but got sacked when he was caught making out with his colleague, the manager's girlfriend, in the store.

He then went on to become a drug rep, going clinic to clinic to sell doctors drugs. That was where he met Maggie. He kinda made it big when his company came up with Viagra. He then wanted to find a cure for Maggie, because he was scared of the prospect of taking care of her for life. They fell out because of that as she did not wanna be a burden to him as well.

He had an opportunity to go over to another state for career advancement and was packing up when he saw a video he had recorded of her. He then went after her, waited for her a whole night at a carpark, and gave up his promotion. And they lived happily ever after? The end.

It was quite a nice show, pretty touching at the end. And we get to see Anne Hathaway's boobs which were apparently very awesome according to the male characters in the show, but I wouldn't know since I'm not a guy. Haha.

I'm lazy to write about this. Everyone roughly knows the story of Gulliver's Travels right? In this version, Gulliver (Jack Black) was a man who had worked in the mail room for 10 years, whereas the new guy got promoted within a day. Quite a loser. He never dared tell Darcy he had a crush on her for years.

He went to her office to tryna ask her out, but got cold feet and pretended he was getting the application form to be a travel writer instead. So, she sent him to the Bermuda Triangle. He got caught in a storm and woke up in Lilliput, a place where everyone was so tiny, he could lift them with his fingers.

He could easily save them from the enemy's attacks. He saved the king from a fire by pissing on it. Thus, they all held him in high regard. He changed the place to look like New York City, they build him a theater and an apartment. So the general, who was also the princess' fiance, got jealous, and went to the enemy's side.

They built a hugeass robot slightly bigger than Gulliver, to fight him. It could electrocute. Gulliver then chickened out, and admitted he had been nothing but a big liar. and that he was actually just a loser where he had come from. He was then sent to the land where he was the size of a doll in a doll house compared to its inhabitants.

Darcy found out that he had actually plagiarized the whole entire article he had submitted to her. She was mad, and went to the Bermuda Triangle to do the article herself. The same thing happened to her.

Well, in the end, Gulliver's tiny friend went to rescue him and encouraged him to return to Lilliput to save the kingdom and Darcy. And this time, with the help of his tiny friend, who went inside the robot to unplug it, Gulliver won the robot with the general inside. Lilliput was freed and the two countries became allies. Gulliver and Darcy ended up together.

This is one interesting movie with a few twists. It started with the police tailing Elise (Angelina Jolie) to find the whereabouts of her lover, Alexander Pierce. He owes them 73 million punds in taxes. He'd write her notes to tell her what to do, like take this train at this place and time, find a guy of his height and build, and lead the police to believe that is him. So she did. She chose Frank (Johnny Depp), a mathematics teacher.

They took the train to Venice where they spent a few days together while she waited for AP to contact her. It turned out that this mafia guy whom AP had cheated billions from, was after him and Elise as well. So if they think that Frank was AP, then his life would be in danger.

Then we found out that Elise was actually an undercover agent who, over time, didn't know whose side she was on. She tried to make Frank leave, and attended a ball where she was supposed to meet AP. She received a note telling her to go to this house. The police (with Frank) and mafia tailed her.

The boss wanted his money back. He asked her where the safe was. She made a lucky guess, but didn't know the passcode. They were gonna kill her when Frank barged in. He knew the passcode to the safe! Frank is Alexander Pierce after $20 million of plastic surgery! He left a cheque behind for the police to pay his taxes. The end.

Watched this with Qi as well.
This is a comedy, so not much of a storyline. And it wasn't exactly like the funniest movie I've ever watched. So.

Okay. I can't help it. This is too hilarious, I just gotta blog about it, at least for my own future viewing pleasures.

It was almost 4+ am, and I was just randomly watching KTV videos on YouTube.

I started with 情歌王 (古巨基), then 囚鸟 (彭羚), then 他不爱我 (莫文蔚), and it wasn't funny.

THEN came 把悲傷留給自己 by 陳昇 and I burst out laughing. You just gotta check out the video to understand why. It's SO OLDDDDDD.

Before I went to Bangkok, I told someone that my favourite cheesecake is Jelly Hearts, but it's not usually sold in shops that sell cheesecakes. It's really easy to make, and the recipe is online. Make one for me.

Then, one day while I was at work, someone, K, gave me this cup really randomly. :S

Christmas Eve dinner. Japanese cuisine.

Snow crab! Absolute yumms k. A generous portion for one. Dip the fresh, succulent, and refreshing crab meat into the vinegar given. Heavenly! :P

Sashimi! My favourite! Salmon belly and something that is of a higher grade than Hamachi (yellowtail). Blissful.

I forgot what this is. I think it's salmon.

Barbequed skewers! Scallop wrapped with bacon, potato wrapped with bacon, salmon wrapped with bacon, shitake mushrooms, chicken wings, asparagus wrapped with bacon. ((:

Grilled yellowtail with salt. Another one of my all-time favourite Japanese dish.

There were salad, chawanmushi (steamed egg), soup, and fruits too. $240++. :D

Then, I went home for a second round of dinner. Homecooked. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

Grilled chicken wings, prawns, fried bee hoon, vegetable curry, black pepper crabs, and chilli crabs! No pictures though. :(

What more can I ask for? It's NOT about the food dude, it's about how BLESSED and LOVED I am! :D

Just in case you didn't already know:

-Even though taking cab there is like super cheap, you should take the train (not to save a few cents) but to avoid wasting precious (shopping, eating, massage, manicure) time in jams!

-Some tuk-tuks might charge you just 20 baht. . .to take you to some place you didn't ask for!

-The girls there are way more trendy than those in Hong Kong. Haha.

-Almost everyone there is like so polite, friendly, helpful, and smiley!

-The Thais queue in neat lines to board the train. Singaporeans, can you please be ashamed of yourselves??

-It is almost impossible to find a trash bin on the streets and even in shopping centres like Siam Paragon. BUT, you don't see litter all over the place!

-Unless you are going with a big group of guys, it's safer not to go for those thai girl shows cos they might quote you one price outside, then corner you and quote you another price inside. Or, threaten and extort with a needle that might be tainted with HIV.

-And in Pattaya, they might accuse you of damaging their water sports equipment and ask you to pay quite a bit, like 8000 baht.

These are true stories that I heard while I was there, so just gotta be careful. But I suppose all's well if you can speak Thai and/or have connections. (:

SPOILER for Rapunzel!

I absolutely <3 <3 <3 Rapunzel, both the character and the movie!

Rapunzel is indeed the sweetest and most likeable Disney princess, with her beautiful, silky, and looooong blonde hair, and lilac dress.

Having been cooped up in a tower for 18 years, her naivety, innocence, genuineness, pureness, and obedience to her mother are extremely endearing.

And this is what she does in the tower:

7 AM, the usual morning lineup
Start on the chores and sweep 'til the floor's all clean
Polish and wax, do laundry, and mop and shine up

Okay.

An old lady discovered a flower which had healing properties and could renew one's youth. She kept its whereabouts secret and used it for her own.

Then, the queen was pregnant and seriously ill. So everyone in the kingdom searched for the flower and they found it, plucked it, and gave it to the queen. She recovered, and gave birth to a super adorable baby with large green eyes and blonde hair.

The old lady kidnapped the baby because the flower's properties now lie in the baby's hair. Once cut, the hair would be of no use.

Rapunzel grew up in the tower thinking the old lady was her mother. But 18 years later, she wanted to get out of the tower, not exactly to explore the world, but to see what the 'floating lights' are. She noticed that they would appear every year on her birthday.

They are actually floating lanterns that the king and queen, and everyone else would light in remembrance of her, the missing princess.

While her mother was sent away by her on a 3-day trip to get her birthday present, Flynn, whose real name is Eugene, who had just stolen a tiara, was escaping from the palace guards, and climbed into her tower.

She knocked him out with a saucepan and locked him in a cupboard at first, but later tied him up with her hair, and made a deal with him--she would return him the tiara if he brought her to see the 'floating lights' and sent her safely home.

There were some obstacles along the way (but Rapunzel charmed all the bad guys), and mother found out that she was gone of course. Mother then tried to convince Rapunzel that Flynn wasn't really falling for her, he just wanted the tiara back.

Mother also got Flynn's partners in crime, whom he betrayed, to work with her in creating the illusion that what she said was true. Flynn got caught and was sent to jail, but the bunch of bad guys whom Rapunzel had charmed went to his rescue.

Rapunzel then realised that she was the missing princess! Flynn went to the tower to look for her and got stabbed by the evil mother. Rapunzel wanted to save him using her hair even if it means she'd have to leave him and go live with the evil mother forever. But Flynn cut off her hair so that the old lady wouldn't want her anymore.

However, miraculously, Flynn was still healed by Rapunzel's tears after the old lady tripped over her hair and fell out of the window to her death.

They went back to the palace and lived happily ever after. (:

I so want the books, dolls, DVD etc now. XD

Megamind (and the audience) couldn't catch what his father said to him at the start of the show.

Does this meaan that the message that the creators of this show is trying to convey is that it's up to US (not our parents or anyone else) to decide our own fates, the kinda lives we wanna lead, and who we wanna be?

The world would like us to think that meritocracy prevails. But it would be hard to deny that our fates are determined to a large extent from the day we were born.

Some children drink the most expensive formula you can find in the supermarket, while some drink condensed milk diluted with water. Some children go to school at the age of 2, while some don't even know how to hold a pencil and write their own names in primary 1. These aren't exaggerations, ask social workers, they would know.

Babies are blank slates; we pick things up from the people around us; our parents, siblings, friends, and colleagues, (and of course also from other sources like the media, e.g., magazines, television, movies, and internet.)

Isn't it true that everything we know right now, from tying our shoelaces to the law of gravity, is LEARNED?

Therefore, if a child grows up in a family which does certain things, and think a certain way, it is likely that the child would follow suit as that is what is considered to be "normal" to the child probably since day 1.

Yes, there are schools (and other institutions) to teach us "right" from "wrong", and if possible, nurture us to become the best we can be. BUT, you gotta admit that NOT EVERYBODY gets the encouragement and guidance they deserve.

Megamind was brought up in a prison, where he was taught that wrong is right. Even though he was given a chance to go to school, he was discriminated against, and labelled as a "bad child" by his teacher and classmates.

I've had so many nightmares that I can still recall rather vividly, so I thought I'd let you take a peek into my subconscious.

The latest one. (I'm not sure if I should be writing this at this time though. :S)

A green boy, about 12 years old, was lying beside me.

Apparently, it had recently been reported that he had drowned to his death.

He was suddenly coughing out the water, and for awhile I was glad that he was alive after all.

He slowly got up, and walked to the door, looking at me with a melancholic expression, like he was asking me to follow him.

I was hesitant and afraid, and I thought I heard my mum and sister's voices telling me not to.

Then I woke up.

It's 7:04 am now and I'm not "awake so early". I haven't slept.

Just read an article from The Straits Times, written by its senior writer, Ong Soh Chin, on Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding.

I like the way she wrote in 2 paragraphs, so I'm here to quote her.

I had been catching movies recently; but I had just been too lazy to blog about them.

Catching a movie with somebody reminded me of all my pet peeves and weird quirks.

-Given a choice, I'd like to sit only on even numbered seats. No particular reason. I just like even numbers and dislike odd numbers.

-But, if I have to choose between sitting on an even numbered seat, or sitting on the left, I'd choose the latter. (If there's only 2 of us watching the movie together.)

-I hate going into the theatre late because I hate missing even a second of the movie.

-So, I hate it when people come into the theatre late AND take a long time to settle down, especially when they are sitting in front of me, because they are so disrupting me from watching my movie!

-And I hate having to go to the toilet

-Or talking when any of the characters are talking.

So anyways, SPOILER ALERT!!!

The whole movie was indeed just about an American man, who was a truck driver in Iraq, being buried alive by terrorists. The camera never moved outta the coffin, and the man was not rescued in the end.

Thus, most people thought the movie sucked. But I feel that there's another way to look at it. I thought it was amazing that it was possible to film the entire movie with just one actor in a dark, enclosed space. It can be seen as artistic, right?

And Ryan Reynolds' acting skills has gotta be really good to use only facial expressions and tone to convey and switch between emotions like fear, hope, helplessness, and frustration, with little light and actions.

I also thought it might be a critique of red tape in bureaucracies, as the guy made many calls to many places, and was asked many questions, and was always put on hold, but was not rescued in time in the end.

It got me wondering what I would do if I am ever caught in such a situation. I would call only 1 person; my dad. It is better to call just 1 person, explain the situation clearly once and for all, and let the person make the rest of the calls to conserve bettery life. I trust my dad to know just what to do and to do everything he can to rescue me.

This movie was pretty boring. We already know how the story is gonna start, and the ending is absolutely predictable.

This married couple died in a car accident, leaving their baby in the care of the husband's best friend and the wife's best friend, who could never get along with each other, unbeknownst to them.

So they moved into the couple's house, and continued living their own lives, until they expectedly fell in love with eaach other.

The guy couldn't take the heat, and left when given a dream job opportunity.

He missed them, came back, and they lived happily ever after.

I remember it as being pretty funny. And one line that I'd like to take away from the movie was, "You can't control the things that happen to you, but you can control how you react to them". Awesome line right? :P

Ironically, the girl who said that line at the beginning of the movie found out that her beloved elder brother was about to marry the one who had made her life damn miserable in high school, and she freaked out.

Her mother also found out that her daughter-in-law-to-be's auntie and only kin was her best friend turned enemy in high school.

So the days leading up to the wedding were full of tension, sabotage and confrontations.

But as expected, all's well that ends well in the end. -_-"

Lastly,
I enjoyed watching this movie largely because of Mark Zuckerberg's verbal linguistic intelligence.

My favourite scene from the movie, and also the best example of the above:

This is long overdue, but about 2 weeks ago, Fel and I met up for a late dinner/early supper at the airport, at TCC, Terminal 3. The main courses were pretty nice, but the cake and hot chocolate really sucked! They waived off the hot chocolate for me in the end though.

Someone asked me, a few weeks ago, what kinda guys do I like.

I couldn't come up with an answer, perhaps because I'm not ready to 'belong' to anybody right now. But I remember when I was about 11 or 12, I came up with a looong list. So silly. Haha.

He must be:

I can't really remember.

So for now, I have a growing list of attributes I can't stand in a guy instead.

Then we went to the Fortune Inn restaurant in Crawford Hotel for our dinner. But it was sucha waste for me, cos I couldn't taste anything at all! I had just gotten the flu! :( We had soup, steak, chilli crab, peeled prawns, jellyfish, roasted meat, veggies.

And we went back to Universal Studios for their Halloween event, A Night in the Netherlands.

Have you ever met an old man who spends every night drinking at the coffeeshop with his friends because he has no wife and children to go back to?

I have.

He had 3 wives actually. And 2 children.

But they left him. Because when he was younger, fun and fraternity were more important to him than them.

Just like how they are to many young and perhaps not so young boys nowadays.

But when you are urgently in need of money, badly beaten up, till you are bedridden, or in the lock-up, who is there for you?

EVEN IF your answer is your "brothers", because they love you, dare I ask you, don't your mother, father, siblings, girlfriend, wife, and children love you too?

What exactly is it then that makes dying for your "brothers", over an insignificant cause, so much more worthwhile than staying alive for your family?

Some people should just never get into relationships. You couldn't avoid being your parents' son, but you should totally avoid being someone's boyfriend or husband or father.

Because you don't deserve their love.
